One of our more recent passions is really an ancient art as chainmaille can be traced back approximately 2000 years with the oldest form ever unearthed being that of chainmaille armor worn by the Celts. Utilitarian became art as this weaving technique was quickly adapted to jewelry design by several ancient cultures.
We have incorporated one of the newest metal alloys, Argentium Sterling Silver, into our chainmaille designs. Argentium is the most tarnish resistant form of sterling available today as the manufacturer has incorporated germanium into the alloy while removing a portion of the copper content and increasing the percentage of pure silver. When activated, the germanium creates a surface layer of germanium oxide which inhibits tarnish that results from the sulfur in the surrounding air. Argentium has the additional advantages of being whiter and more durable than traditional sterling alloys.
